I’ve been on the elimination diet for about two and a half weeks now. I started July 29th and I’m supposed to go until the 26th of August with it. I may push it back another week just to be safe. There are a couple times during this diet that I have made mistakes and I really want to make sure that my digestive system has had all of the rest that it needs to heal. Although I could always just take the reintroduction period very slow. Either way in the end I just want to feel better.
Most days I am but there have been a couple of times where I haven’t been feeling so well. I’m still keeping up with my food diary. It’s helped out a lot. Having a food diary allows me to keep track of what I’m eating along with the symptoms that I’m having. I’ve been able to eliminate stuff that’s affected me.
Today was a rough day concerning what I can and cannot eat. I really just wanted some damn chocolate but I can’t have it right now because of the inulin that’s in it. It apparently will feed the bad bacteria in my small intestine and just make that problem worse. There’s other stuff that I have to avoid because of the SIBO. The elimination diet is taking place because of the SIBO. This is a common occurrence that affects people with a fructose intolerance. It will give my system a chance to rest and repair itself. Which is definitely a good thing. But I wish it didn’t involve chocolate. My sweet tooth has been wanting some all day!
I did figure out what I will eat once I can have chocolate again in a couple of weeks. I’m pretty damn excited that Fred Meyers carries Graeter’s Ice Cream. I’ve been dying to have some of their Black Raspberry Chip for over a year and a half and I finally found some at the store! They also don’t put any corn syrup or HFCS in their products which makes me super happy 🙂
